Dumplings of any kind are made with flour and water (or milk) and are relatively easy to make. Place dumpling dough on the counter and dust it with more flour. Cut in the shortening with a knife or pastry blender until the mixture resembles fine crumbs. Add oil and water and mix until smooth. Add a bit more water until dumplings are soft and not at all dry.
