Steps to make Steamed Sweet Dumplings:
  1. Combine the flour with enough water and knead into a semi-stiff dough. Cover and keep aside for 15 to 20 minutes. Divide into equal portions.
  2. For the filling : Pressure cook the chana dal on low heat till 5 to 6 whistles.
  3. When the pressure settles down open the cooker and drain off the water completely.
  4. Then mash the dal properly. Add sugar and cook stirring continuously till the mixture thickens and starts to separate in the pan.
  5. Remove from heat and add nutmeg powder or cardamom powder.
  6. Mix well. The Puran (stuffing) is ready to make dumplings.
  7. For the dumpling : Take the dough and make lemon size balls from it.
  8. Roll it, put the filling and then give dumpling shape.
  9. Heat the steamer/pressure cooker without weight, grease a flat vessel.
  10. Add the sweet dumplings in the greased vessel.
  11. Place it into the steamer/pressure cooker and cook for 15 minutes on a medium flame.
  12. Enjoy the dumplings hot with ghee!
