  8. Prepare Oil for frying

Whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt in a mixing bowl. Cut in the shortening with a knife or pastry blender until the mixture resembles fine crumbs. Stir the milk into the flour mixture until moistened. Dough will be pretty lumpy, but be sure to not over mix it!

Instructions to make Muttappam (rice dumplings):
  1. Wash and soak raw rice in water for 4 hours. In a bowl add soaked raw rice and cooked rice mix it. In a mixer grinder add raw rice and cooked rice add enough water and grind like a smooth paste. The batter consistency is thick rest the batter at least six hours. After six hours. Add little water1/2 teaspoon salt 1 tblspn maida 2 teaspoon sugar baking soda. Mix it well. (the batter should be dosha batter consistency). Heat a cavity appam maker (uniyapachatti pour coconut oil in 3/4 of
  2. Uniyapachatti. When the oil get heat pour the batter. Turn into another side when the batter is little cooked. Cook for 4 mins in medium flame. In each side when the appam slightly change it's colour remove from the oil and strain the excess oil. Delicious muttappam is ready to serve.

Stir the milk into the flour mixture until moistened. Dough will be pretty lumpy, but be sure to not over mix it! Stir together flour, baking powder, sugar, and salt in medium size bowl. Stir in milk to make a soft dough. Put self-rising flour in a bowl, cut in shortening with a pastry blender or fork until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
